The Messenger
(low stock)

pack of 5 with gold envelopes
148 x 105mm, gloss finish on gold metallic card
blank inside

Long-exposure night-time photograph with central symmetry. Bristol’s harbour entrance witnesses the second-highest tidal difference in the world once or twice a year. During the day, the transformations from mud to mirror reveal much about the landscape itself, but at night, something unearthly is seen in the dark and in flashes of reflected streetlights. The connotations of fire and illumination are carried here into the Christmas story by earlier work on this image (‘The Illumination’, 2012) – Old Testament pillars of fire become the dramatic glory of angels appearing to the shepherds. The light, the gold, is dangerously attractive, incandescent and explosive.

But you, you are the Tree.

The Gift

pack of 5 with white envelopes
105 x 148mm, satin finish
blank inside

The following text appears on the reverse of the card:
This image is a visual response to the Wilton Diptych, the beautiful miniature altarpiece found in the National Gallery. Like the altarpiece, the gift has several layers of wrapping: figures from both heaven and earth acknowledge each other with looks that cross boundaries, some of them pressing into another’s space. Background pattern and shimmering colour is part of the description of preciousness. And in its unwrapping, it reveals itself to be a present about a present, like the diptych does for Richard II.
The text is a reference from John 3:16.

Three Kings

pack of 5 with white envelopes
148 x 105mm, satin finish
blank inside

The following text appears on the reverse of the card:
This image is a digital composite of photographs, text and textile collage. Originally, the three kings were created for a short animation as part of Watershed’s annual online advent calendar Electric December. They continued their journey into a Christmas card design, and formed part of 2008’s Christmas Experience at Christ Church Clifton. Along the way, they pass the stained glass at Prinknash Abbey, Gloucestershire and the remaining three of the ‘Seven Sisters’ trees situated on the Downs, Bristol.
The text is a reference from John 1:4,5.
