First produced for the inaugural Visual Theology Conference at The Bishop's Palace, Chichester

The complete text of the KJV Bible text, with the exception of the Psalms, is transcribed onto Fabriano drawing paper with light. Cyanotypes are photographic prints produced without a camera, in this case with the superimposition of acetate layers over the sensitised paper. The vivid blue pigment forms as a result of iron compounds reacting to light, and the process was adopted in the copying of architectural designs known as blueprints.

Here the idea of a hallowed space for copyists intent on disseminating the sacred texts is mixed with the idea of a contemporary script, a programme in computer code for running or executing the display of public domain text. ‘Script’ and ‘scroll’ contain actionable meaning in today’s world, in which instruction and revelation form part of the reading process and its illuminating power.
